Loose Ends ~ My Unfinished Project Gallery

Recently we bought a book of idioms (not idiots) for our 13-year-old daughter.  Why?  Because it seems like every time we say something like “the cat’s out of the bag” or “don’t spill the beans“, we  get a look from her as if we were speaking a foreign language.  Like Martian or Venusian.

It always makes me feel really old when this happens.

Or really redneck.

Or completely out of touch.

Today I’m reminded of the idiom “your eyes are bigger than your stomach“.  You remember that one….the one your mother of grandmother would say to you after you couldn’t eat everything that you had piled on your plate.  Well, I seem to have that problem with furniture that needs a little tlc.

As I’m sure you are aware, there are many project galleries out there on the world wide web.  I have one of them myself.  (see the tab above labeled “my painted projects”).  And I’ve seen some online honey-do lists and works-in-progress as well.  But I’ve got something new to show you.  My unfinished project gallery.  Say what?

 My piece.

My inspiration piece and colors for the unfinished project in the previous picture.

Yep.  I’m doing a special, real-life, “the ugly truth” type of reveal post today.  I’m sure it will go viral on pinterest.  Ha!

Over the past few months/years I’ve accumulated all of these pieces with incredibly fabulous potential.  I always see the glass as half full.  But I’m stuck in neutral.  Can’t get motivated.  My mojo is MIA.

Maybe it’s my age.

Maybe it’s my hormones.

Maybe it’s the weather.

Who knows?

Anyhoo.  Here’s what’s in my little workshop currently.  Eventually these pieces will be finished in the perfect color and I will have an awesome reveal post that’s perfectly staged and photographed like a pro.

For real.

Someday very soon.

Because I always finish everything on my to-do list in a very timely manner.  Ha!  again.

I started painting this secretary hutch a few weeks ago.  The drawers are in the top photo.  The doors and fretwork are on top of the little drop leaf table, shown below.

It was finished in that familiar antiqued green that everything got painted with in the 70’s.  I got half way through the job and decided that I didn’t love the color combo.  And I’m the type of person who has to love something to finish it.  So wrong, I know.  But it’s a trait that I’m working on improving.  After all, done is better than perfect.  Right?

It’s a really pretty piece, but the cream and pale aqua color combo won’t work in my house.  And I’m thinking that it needs to come to my house and stay with me for a while before I put a price tag on it and send it home with some wonderful buyer.

I saw the secretary desk in the photo above in the Wisteria catalog that I got in the mail yesterday. Maybe I should just go with the cream and aqua and be done with it!

I picked up the cabinet pictured here this past weekend at a yard
sale.  Like I needed another project.  But it has potential.  The
Christmas lights that are attached to it with tape make it really special.
Seriously though, it will likely be used as a display case in my retail
space.  It will look great painted and staged and filled with little
lovelies.  Can’t you envision it?

The cabinet in the photo above is from Restoration Hardware.  I think I could come pretty close to this piece.

I’ve had this little pastel pink drop leaf table for a few months now.  It’s very sturdy and a great piece, but the paint on the top needs to be removed, so I’m not super excited about the project.  I love the legs and will probably repaint them and stain the top, finishing it with a durable polyurathane.  My mom has said she wants to buy it from me as soon as I finish it.  So it already has a buyer!

I snagged this antique chair for next-to-nothing at a yard sale some time ago.  All it needs is some new fabric and maybe a quick paint job and it will be stunning.  Just you wait and see!  And by the way, if anyone needs a super stylish hot pink Barbie car, I’ll make you a great deal on the one leaning up against the wall in the background of the above pic.  πŸ˜‰

I started this reupholstering project last summer and quickly “ran out of steam” when I discovered how difficult it is to remove old upholstery and the gazillion staples that it is attached with.  I’ve already spent several hours on it removing trim, nails, and staples, and have several more hours to go on it.  But I can see it finished….covered in a linen-type fabric and a whitewashed or light gray-taupe color on the wooden areas.  Just like something out of Restoration Hardware catalog.  In about 10 more working hours.  Sigh…. These things always look so easy when other people blog about them!

Here’s my inspiration and vision for the chair.

I’m thinking I’m not the only one who has an unfinished project or two (or ten) waiting to be completed.  What about you?

What’s lurking in your garage/storage room/workshop?  Do tell.  I need to know I’m not alone in this DIY ADD that I suffer from!

Maybe we need to form a support group and nag each other until we complete them, one project at a time.   Let’s tie up all those loose ends.

Who’s with me?

Thanks for stopping by.

XOXOX,

Angie
