Orange and Turquoise: A match made in color heaven

Happy Hues-day, friends!  My schedule is a bit off this week, so our regularly scheduled Tuesday-huesday is late.  And although I usually feature one specific paint color, today I'm featuring two shades, orange and aqua. I'm such a rebel this week!

What's the first color that comes to mind when you think of Fall?  For me, it's definitely orange. And when you pair it with the right hue, it's a fabulous color to decorate with.  Are you not a fan of orange?  Scroll down to see what I'm talking about.

The combination of orange and turquoise is one of my very favorites.  Using an accent pillow or throw blanket or even some flowers in orange is a great way to add some pizazz to a room. Add some brown to the mix, and it just doesn't get much cozier.

I must be part gypsy or something, because I love this space.  It looks somewhat like the remnants of an estate sale I recently visited, but I love those colors and quirky accessories. Another orange throw blanket and a hip mid-century modern sofa give this room a definite cool vibe.  And that wood grain wallpaper is amazing!

Here's a nice cottage bedroom where orange is the accent color. The orange pillows and vase provide the perfect punch of color against the aqua walls.  The linen bedding and black furniture are great neutral elements in the room that balance out the crisp aqua.

In this dining room, the blue chairs really POP against the warmer neutrals, oranges, and golds in the space.  I really like the way it brightens the space.

I don't know what it is about this space, but I absolutely love it!  The colors, the patterns, the textures, the style...the whole thing.  It's very boho-chic!

That orange velvet chaise is so impractical, but oh-so fabulous!  I guess it reminds me of my youth, when we had a groovy orange velvet sectional sofa in my parents' basement. There were los of fun times hanging out down there.  Such was life as a child of the 70's!

Here's more blue and orange.  Aren't they the perfect complementary colors?  Our bedroom is painted in a very similar color to this, and I have added orange accents before, but they haven't been quite as nice as this space.  This is inspiring me to give it another try!

Wouldn't this be a great room for a teenage girl?  I've got two of teenage daughters and would love to do something like this in one of their rooms.

I'm not a fan of the orange lacquered finish here, but I do like the colors.  And that headboard is simply amazing.

So what do you think?  Orange is usually a color that you love or hate.  I'm a lover myself.  And it doesn't hurt that the Mr. and I both graduated from the University of Tennessee, otherwise known as the "Big Orange".  It's definitely the color of the season around here right now with football season about to kick off.

Thanks for stopping by!

  1. Wow!! You must have been reading my mind. When we bought our house we had turquoise counters. I was not a fan of that color for our house. I thought that color belonged in Florida or Arizona. Needless to say, did not change the counters so we went with what we had. We have some beautiful blue rooms in our house and we just finished our bedroom. The orange is a perfect accent color. In fact ebay just sent be a post - a beautiful Murano vase in orange for sale. Yep! I bought it. Thank you for helping me think outside the box.
