How to paint a laminate counter top

*I was provided with product and/or monetary compensation from Tide Oxi for this post. However, all opinions are strictly my own.*

Have you ever had one of those projects that seemed to take forever to finish? Maybe you got distracted with other projects. Maybe you bit off more than you could chew. Maybe life got in the way. Whatever the reason, I'll bet we've all had projects like that. I may or may not have had more than one of these kind of projects in my lifetime. ;)

Making even a little progress on one of my incomplete projects is always a good thing. My craft room conversion project is one of those, and I've recently made lots of progress. At this rate, I might actually finish it before the year is over. LOL.

Blogland Tour

I've met some of the nicest, most talented people since I started blogging a few years ago. I'm truly amazed at the amount of creativity and talent out there. And how great is it that people want to share their knowledge with others? I, for one, and very grateful and have been inspired to take on many projects because of what I've seen in the blogosphere.

One of the nicest people I've met recently is Christy at Our Southern Home. She's a sweet Southern gal who has a gorgeous Country French home and she's always doing some type of amazing project. Today I'm sharing some of my favorites, as well as photos of her home. You'll definitely want to drop by and see her blog for yourself, and be sure to tell her I sent you!

College dorm room organizing and decorating ideas

Last week we moved our oldest daughter into her dorm room. It was an exciting day for her moving into her first place away from home. And a little sad for mom and dad knowing that baby bird #1 is flying away. Don't get me started again.

Really though, it was fun helping her set up her new things in this brand new dorm that she's now living in. Here's how it looked when her dad and I left on move-in day.

Moen Motionsense Faucet Giveaway!

Guys, I'm truly excited about this giveaway. Not that I don't get excited about giving things away, but this is a great product and I really want others to be able to enjoy it as much as I do!

Do you remember earlier this year when I replaced our kitchen faucet mostly by myself? I had never done any plumbing before then and it gave me such a sense of accomplishment. Not to mention that it saved me money that I would have had to pay a plumber. It's been several months since that project and I absolutely love my faucet and am so glad I did it myself. (Read all about the project and see all of the before, during, and after photos here.)

Update: Giveaway is over, but you can find great prices on these and other Ball Mason Jars here

Friday is move-in day for my college freshman. She's so excited and also a little anxious. What a great time for a young person...a brand new chapter in their life. They can reinvent themselves if they choose, make lots of new friends, learn to live (somewhat) independently, and gain all kinds of new knowledge. My husband and I of course have mixed emotions about it all, but it's a good thing overall. We raise them to be independent, thinking young adults who make good choices. We hope that they'll not only survive but thrive when they fly the coop!

CANdy gram teacher gift

This shop is part of a social shopper marketing insight campaign with Pollinate Media Group and Sharpie, but all my opinions are my own. #pmedia #StaplesBTS #SharpieBTS http://my-disclosur.es/OBsstV

School started here yesterday. My youngest began her high school career and my oldest will be starting her freshman year in college in a few days. It sounds so strange to be saying that!

I have several friends who are teachers and they truly love what they do, but let's face it...working with our kids 7 or 8 hours of every day is no cake walk. So why not treat these hardworking, special people to something fun and frivolous? I've got a simple idea for that.

I made a CANdy gram teacher gift. (Let me know if you, too, are envisioning a LAND SHARK now! From very old SNL skits if you are very young and have no idea what I'm talking about.)

This project is so simple and fun. And it can be done in 30 minutes or less! You can spend as little or as much as you like. And you can easily pick up supplies for this project while you're doing your back-to-school shopping at Staples. Read on for the how-to!

How to crackle paint like a pro

As you know, I like to paint furniture. And I like to let the piece's personality come out in the process. Sometimes I want to make a piece look more aged and will do some distressing and waxing and glazing, etc.

One of the pieces I painted recently needed to look more aged in my opinion, so I decided to do some crackle finish in specific areas. I wanted it to appear as if it had aged over time, so I chose areas that might show the most wear and age to do the crackle technique. Kinda like the aging process that we humans go through and we have more wrinkles in specific places. You get the idea.
