Interior Door Paint Colors

Much like painting a piece of furniture, painting a door is a great way to add color without making a big commitment. And it’s easy enough to change if you get tired of it.

I always like to answer questions that you might have in any of my posts. And you might be wondering about these things:

What’s the best color for interior doors?

While there’s not one “best” color, the most popular colors are whites, off whites, grays, and blacks. But it’s your home so you should use whatever color you want, regardless of trends.

However, if you’re thinking about resale you might want to stick with a popular shade.

Should I paint my interior doors that same color as my walls?

No, it’s not at all necessary to paint interior doors the same color as the walls. In fact, they’re usually different colors.

But if you’re trying to make a room look larger, painting the doors and walls all the same color will help with this. That’s because you’re not breaking up the room into smaller visual areas by creating a contrast between different surfaces.

Are painted doors in style?

Painted doors, especially the inside of your front door, are definitely popular and also a great way to insert a dash of color into your entry. Much like an accent wall, it adds personality and style to any room.

Here are some gorgeous interior doors with paint colors that will add instant character to your room.

  1. I'm curious if they are painted the same color on the other side. And if not, what color do you paint the edge?

    1. That's a good question. I'd guess that some are the same on the backside but not all of them. And if the color is on the side of the door that opens into a room, i.e. it swings into the room, then paint the edge the same color. If it's on the side of the door that opens away from the room, i.e. the side the rests against the door jamb, then don't paint the edge. Does that make sense?

  2. Thanks so much for including my green door!! I have a few other doors in the house that are still white and I've been debating what to do with them! This gives me some great ideas, and I'm pretty sure I know my new direction now! Thank you!!

    1. Thanks for letting me include it, Natalie! I can't wait to see what you do with your other doors!
