Hello, friends. Can you believe that Thanksgiving is just around the corner? Where has this year gone? I’m excited because Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. It’s got all the good things – food, family, and a festive atmosphere, without the pressure of finding just the right gift without blowing your budget.

But it’s not completely stress-free, especially if you’re hosting Thanksgiving dinner. So today I’ve teamed up with Decoy wine to give you some tips for a simple, natural tablescape and for making your Thanksgiving a stress-free day. Here are some great ideas:

Thanksgiving Tablescape & Stress-Free Holiday Tips

1. Keep the place settings simple

If formal China is something you love, then by all means use it. But a casual, rustic Thanksgiving table setting is always welcome at our home. No hand washing required on these dishes.

Vintage silver, fall dinner plates, and relaxed cloth napkins make a simple but tasteful table setting. Add some rustic texture with woven placemats or chargers.Ā

2. Make a simple, natural centerpiece

Keeping the theme simple and natural with your centerpiece is as easy as a trip to the grocery store.

For this casual centerpiece all you need is some seasonal produce, greenery, and nuts. I used pears, persimmons, walnuts, and hazelnuts in a wooden bowl and placed it on top of a few eucalyptus branches. A simple burlap table runner anchors it all.

3. Offer your guests a few appetizers

Keep your guests happy while the final preparations are being made to the main meal by offering a few items to snack on. Cheese, nuts, dried fruits, and meats only take a few minutes to set up but can give you plenty of extra time to finish making the turkey and dressing. I picked up all of these items at the grocery store.

4. Serve great wine

Tips for a less stressful Thanksgiving dinner

In addition to these tips, here are a few more things you can do to make your Thanksgiving less stressful and more enjoyable.

  • Plan your menu at least 2 weeks ahead of time.
  • Clean out your refrigerator and freezer ahead of time to make room for everything.
  • Buy groceries the week before Thanksgiving – turkeys take at least 3 days to thaw if frozen.
  • Prepare and freeze anything you can ahead of time and simply thaw and warm it on Thanksgiving. Most desserts freeze well.
  • Set the table the day before Thanksgiving.
  • Accept any offers of help or food from guests.
  • Do any heavy duty cleaning the week before and just touch up everything the day before.
  • Most importantly – Remember that it’s more about being thankful than anything else.

Finally, after all the guests have gone, put your feet up and toast yourself for a job well done.
