Christmas porch decorating ideas with a rustic mantel

preserved boxwood wreath and magnolia leaves with wood cathedral window frame

Hello, friends! And happy December to you. It’s hard to believe that this year is almost over! I’ve got the house all decorated for Christmas and am teaming up with some of my home blogging pals today to give you some festive decorating ideas. All of my friends’ ideas are down below my post, so be sure to visit all of them for some wonderful ideas for your home.

I’m sharing our newly painted and refreshed deck with my vintage wood mantel and some Christmas decor that I’ve added to it. I’ve had this old mantel for years and just put it out here on the deck a couple of months ago. We had the house repainted in July and I got rid of most of the old furniture that was out here. It was definitely time for a change.

We added some comfy new chairs and I’ve got them all decked out for Christmas with a cozy throw blanket and some fun pillows. The red blanket and plaid accents give it a welcoming, lodge look.

Some birch wrapped candles add to the woodsy look. And some boxwood and magnolia clippings from the yard add a natural green filler to the mantel.

The wood bead garland dresses the whole thing up and makes it seem like a celebration is happening.

And the cathedral window adds some needed height to the mantel.

How do you like my little clay ornaments? I’ve been taking a pottery class at our local art center and made these with some leftover clay. I love the way they turned out.

There’s nothing like a simple little red stripe ribbon to add a cozy Christmas touch to a classic preserved boxwood wreath.

On the deck floor, a couple more boxes wrapped in kraft paper and tied with string look festive in our old coca cola crate wagon.

I dressed them up with some more of my little clay ornaments and holly and juniper sprigs. So simple to do.

A cozy wool striped blanket, a vintage arm & hammer wood box, and a woven basket with a grapevine wreath make the deck even more cozy, don’t you think? And I simply tucked a holly branch into the wreath to dress it up a little.

Who’s ready to drop by and have a cup of hot cocoa out here with me?

  1. Angie, you porch is so cozy and beautiful. I would love to come over an hang out for hours. I especially love that mantel. What a genius idea for porch decor. I don't have a large porch but if I did I'd be out looking for a mantel.

    1. Thank you, Patti! You can come hang out with me any time! It's funny, but I wasn't even looking for a mantel when I found this one. Isn't that the way it always happens?

  2. I love the idea of a mantel on a deck or porch. It makes the space feel so cozy and you've styled the mantel and deck space to Christmas perfection. I've never seen a Coke crate wagon. Did people make these or were they a thing that Coke sold long ago?

    1. Thanks, Paula! The Coke crate belonged to my late mother-in-law and I'm pretty sure someone local made it. Such a fun little piece!

  3. Angie, your space is just perfect! The mantle is so beautiful and the way you have it dressed is just dreamy. I have a covered porch, but up here it gets so cold, wet and snowy (like today) so quickly that nothing would look very pretty for very long out there, but you have me tempted to grab a blanket and start decorating! So pretty…

    1. Thanks, Kim. Our weather is warm enough to sit outside for most of the year. It's actually too hot out here in the heat of the summer, but we have a ceiling fan that helps.

  4. So many gorgeous and thoughtful touches on your deck, Angie. I love the mantel and the way you've styled the entire space.

    1. Thanks, Amy! I'm loving the mantel out here and can't wait to decorate it for the seasons.

    1. Thank you! Now if we could just get some warm weather so I can sit out here for a while!

  5. I love your mantel on your porch! What a fun piece to decorate around! You've balanced the rustic and pretty perfectly. Now all it needs is a sprinkling of white snow! Thanks so much for organizing this beautiful hop! A great introduction to Christmas!

  6. I do wish I could pop over for that cup of hot cocoa! And that mantel is STUNNING! I know you are thrilled to have a place to showcase it! Will you keep it up year round? It looks like it was meant to be there. And all dolled up with your clippings and that frame! I imagine you never want to leave that lovely porch.

Thanks for opening your home (porch!)

    Hugs,

    Lynn

    1. Come over any time! I'll be keeping the mantel out here and can't wait to decorate it for all the seasons!

    1. Thanks, Pam! It really is cozy out here. Just need some warmer weather so we can enjoy it!

  7. Not sure I'd ever want to go back inside after sitting in that comfy looking chair sitting next to a vintage mantel! It all looks so cozy. Love it all!

  8. Your porch is absolutely beautiful, Angie! So warm and cozy and inviting. Everything from the mantel, to the candlesticks to the blanket and pillows are gorgeous.

  9. Love love love your porch! I've already clicked through to snag some of the goodies shared here. Love the new chairs, too. Hope you have many hours to sit and enjoy!

  10. Oh, Angie! You porch is just cozy perfection. Now, I need to find a mantel for our porch. I want everything on your porch. Thanks so much for organizing another fabulous tour with beautiful ideas!

    1. Thank you, Christy! It's funny, I wasn't looking for a mantel when I found this and when I got it I had no idea where I would put it. Isn't that how it always happens?

  11. Love love love your mantel and how you've decorated your porch for the Christmas season, Angie!!! Will be back by to check out some of the other participants on the tour.

    Happy holidays to you,
    Barb 🙂

  12. Looks like the perfect spot for a cup of hot cocoa. So pretty and I love the mantel. Thanks so much for all you do to put these holiday tours together. Happy Holidays to you!

  13. This is beyond cozy and welcoming! I LOVE those clay tags you made, they are a gift and a tag, beautiful!

    1. Thanks, Laurie! I had fun making the little tags and I'm becoming addicted to making clay items!

  14. I'm SO envious of your gorgeous fireplace surround, Angie. You've styled it perfectly for Christmas! Loving that cute little button pillow too. After reading your post, I think I need to go take a pottery class!

    1. Thanks, Suzy! You should definitely see if there's a pottery class near you. I'm taking one at our local art center, but there are pottery studios not too far away that teach as well. It's very therapeutic.

  15. Angie, your Christmas porch is just stunning! I love the mantel. Thank you For hosting this great tour!
