A Vintage Valentine's Vignette that Makes Me Smile

Hello, friends. I've got a confession. Winter really gets me down. And by that I mean that I can't seem to get motivated to complete anything around the house. Or exercise. Or eat right. Is it just me? Does anyone else need sunshine and warm weather to feel like you're alive?

Anyway...even though most of my house looks like a tornado blew through, I do have at least one little spot that currently makes me smile.

It's the small landing area next to our basement entry. The one that I never use, lol. Maybe that's why it has been staying neat and tidy? Hmmmm.

I had this vintage metal drawer cabinet in the garage until a few months ago, when I cleared out the clutter that was piled up here and moved the cabinet here. I'm trying to get rid of things that don't spark joy. So that means I need to say goodbye to probably 75% of the stuff in my house, haha!

I added some various Valentine's day decor and some red accents to give the area a romantic look. I already had everything here. They were borrowed from other areas of the house (the perks of having a big stash).

I got the vintage tulip botanical at an estate sale several years ago and never have really figured out where to put it. I kinda like it with this little vignette and am thinking it will stay here through the spring.

Don't you just love my paper heart garland? I got it from etsy a couple of years ago and bring it out every February or late January. (You can find it here if you're interested → vintage paper heart garland)

This little area is so warm and cheerful now. I think I'll be finding excuses to visit the basement and might even use these doors when I go out to run errands. It is definitely bringing a smile to my face in the middle of the dreary month of January.

Are you feeling the winter blues too? What are you doing to beat them? I suggest making a little vignette somewhere in your house that brings a smile to your face every time you see it.

  1. Very pretty Angue and I love the garland. I'm so opposite of most. I thrive in sunny cool and cold temperatures. I feel invigorated. I am not a warm weather person, I know weird.

    1. Thank you, Cindy! I can tolerate the cold when we have sunshine, but most of our January days are overcast and gloomy. Today we've got sunshine and I'm so glad.

  2. Angie,
Love your area on the landing!
That vintage paper heart garland has me swooning!
(I love all things paper and string!)
Winter blues is an amazing time for re~organizing
and editing all those things we once thought we needed
and now realize that they no longer bring happiness to our lives.
Best wishes with your endeavors to edit your "stuff"!
Me, I , too love "shopping the house" and putting together vignettes!

  5. Love this little vignette. So cute. I must be one of a minority that just loves fall and winter so, no, I don't get seasonal affective disorder or otherwise have the cold weather blues. I just the love the opportunity to snuggle in and layer up and the winter months seem to be conducive to the interests I have....crafts, decorating and reading.
