Muted colors and soft accents for a fall table setting

Our fall table setting is done with soft muted colors, dried and faux florals, and casual dishes and napkins. I think it might be my favorite fall table that I’ve done to date.

How to Set a Fall Table with Muted Colors

1. Soft fall colors

Even though I’m an alum of the University of Tennessee and my blood runs orange, I don’t really like to decorate with that color of orange, even for fall.

This year I wanted to use soft hues of rust, gold, green, and a dash of lavender. I’ve added some pieces that I’ve had for a while and a few things from my online shop too.

2. Simple Centerpiece

For my simple centerpiece I used a small wooden cutting board as a base and added a
white stoneware pitcher and a smaller matching stoneware creamer.

I used them as vases and added dried hydrangeas, faux rust eucalyptus, faux berry stems, dried French lavender, and a few other sprigs for filler. See my simple technique for drying hydrangeas here: How to Dry Hydrangeas

3. Add some texture

For a bit of texture I used my woven placemats. I’ve had these for years and use them all year because they go with everything.

4. Cloth Napkins with Fall Colors

For another dose of fall color I added some fringed cloth napkins striped with terra cotta and taupe. And my white ironstone thrift store dishes go great with all of it.

5. Casual Glassware

My stemless glassware has just the tiniest hint of blue in them and I like the way they complement
the fall colors and the dried hydrangeas. Plus they’re nice and casual which fits the theme of this table setting.

6. Finishing Touches

I placed a burnt orange linen tea towel on the cutting board for a bit more fall color. And I added some nuts, dried oranges, acorns, and a wood bead garland for a finishing touch, along with a small dried hydrangea.

7. Slipcovered chairs for a softer look

Our dining chairs are a dark wood and I recently added these cotton slipcovers for a lighter, softer look. It has really made a big difference and definitely has made the area lighter. Plus they add a cozy factor that the wood chairs were missing.

The table now has a casual, vintage look that I’ll keep until possible late November. But knowing me, it will change before that. I hope you’ve gotten some ideas for your fall table here today! Let me know what your favorite part is in the comments below!
